Breakfast in the neighborhood
Sunday, October 12, 2008
My boyfriend and I had to meet a friend of his for breakfast, still half asleep we strolled down to Squat and Gobble, just around the corner from our apartment.
It was cold that morning and the place felt really inviting. From people seating behind their computer with a coffee to the family out with the kids, the place was buzzing.
This is not a restaurant but a cafe, you go to the counter and ask for what you’d like and they will bring it to your table. By the way the menu is huge and if you’re like me it took me forever to go thru it, while still half asleep!
I went for the eye opener with meat, meaning 2 eggs with sausage and toast. I asked for the eggs to be runny, well they arrived quite done. To tell you the truth, the potatoes were a bit dried for me. But the boyfriend went for the eggs benedict and he seemed to have been more successful than me.
I ordered a tea with it and they were nice enough to refill it a couple time. It was nice.
This is not a gourmet place, but if you are looking for comfort food this it. This is to me, a very relaxed atmosphere with just ok food, but for some reason you will come out of there satisfied. I guess this is the magic of the american brunch!
Summary: I will recommend it if you want something easy and comforting. Don’t expect too much from this place but it is a nice little joint to have a coffee and a scramble.
