One Bite at a time!
One Bite at a time!
A gem in the mission!

Well I had heard about it and saw the star coming from the Michelin Guide. I wanted to see what the fuss was all about, trust me the fuss is about me wanting to have dinner there every night!
Range is my new favorite place in San Francisco, on Valencia St. and 19th you will find this neighborhood gem.
My boyfriend and I went for the first time tonight, with no real expectations. The food was just brilliant! The service is ok. I was bothered by the fact that during the 2 hours we spent there, we had about 4 different waiters. You saw a ballet of waiter when you didn’t need them and when you looked for someone you couldn’t find any of your waiters. Sorry, I am being old school but I’d like to interact with one person only, unless the restaurant has a sommelier. One table one waiter!
We started with the mushroom soup, that was for me the best thing I had put in my mouth since spain! The consistency was perfect, served with a spoon of creme fraiche. The mushroom chopped finely enough to make it a soup and thick enough to still feel the texture of each mushroom under your teeth. It was so good. Can I have a gallon of that???
Then I ordered the marinated leeks with poached egg served with a dijon vinaigrette. The boyfriend ordered the steamed clams. Both of those were excellent! If I didn’t have fancy people around I would have licked the plate clean!
Then we followed with hanger steak and skate ray. Thank you so much for not making this delicate fish something dry and taste less. It was perfectly cook, perfectly seasoned, perfectly set on the plate, with a colorful side dish of padrón peppers and with a green olive tapenade.
It doesn’t get better than this.
We had dessert but not being a huge dessert fan, I will leave it to this!
Thanks to all the kitchen staff for such an amazing meal!!
Summary: I highly recommend Range, the food is simple with complex flavors. The ingredients are local and beautiful, it’s a bit pricey but it’s worth every penny. My bill for 2: $165 (2 cocktails, a bottle of wine and tip included)
