Superstar!

The first time I went there was a few month ago. I almost fainted the food was so good. Well, the wait too!
In the heart of the richmond, right on Clement street you will find this hip joint. Burma Superstar, got me really intrigued from the moment I had to wait 45 minute to get a table on a Tuesday night at 9 p.m.
Last night it was a friend’s Birthday and he picked the place, I was not going to contest.
Tip: put your name down and walk down the street, there are a few bars where you can grab a beer or cocktail before dinner. Have them take your phone number and when your table is ready they will call you.
Burma is a very busy restaurant and you will understand why as soon as the food comes to your table.
What we ordered:
Samosa soup
Rainbow salad
Wok roasted calamari
See Jyet Kauser (vegetarian) for our vegetarian friend
Riblettes
Nan Pia Dok (Noodles in coconut curry)
Burmese style curry (beef)
Some cardamom rice
I will recommend to start your meal with the Samosa soup. As strange as it sounds, I have yet found someone that didn’t like it!!! It’s a mix of curry soup with burmese style samosa, onions, potatoes and pretty much everything you will find in the kitchen! But it’s good, really good and yes you will go back to Burma superstar and wait for as long as it takes just to have that soup again. The rainbow salad is fresh, made out of 22 different ingredients, it’s not my favorite but it is still very good. I tried for the first time last night the roasted calamari and THAT was great! perfectly cooked served on a bed of salad (burmese style) with mint, lemongrass and topped with peanuts. I loved it!
The riblettes are bite size cut ribs caramelized in a nice “stick to your fingers” sauce. It was good but not impressive.
The beef curry another of their flagship dish, was as usual, tender, spicy and beautiful.
We order some Burmese cooler to drink with our dinner. A mix of beer, ginger and lemon, it’s really refreshing and tasty.
Summary: Burma Superstar is definitely the place you want to go to if you are looking for good food. It’s worth getting out of your neighborhood and adventuring in the Richmond. It will be long before you can be seated, but just think about the food that will be served to you!! Order the samosa soup and let me know what you think.
Bill for 4 very hungry people: $106 (tip not included, pitcher of burmese cooler included) These was a lot of food!!!
Yes it is a busy place, but if you can’t deal with the wait just order to go.
