Farmers’ Market
Saturday, November 22, 2008
This is a place I like to go to frequently, this is my Saturday morning stroll with my man when we manage to get up early enough to get the good produce.
If you want the good stuff, yes you have to be there early, before the crowds have pillage all the stands. You take a look, compare prices, be careful it’s not all cheap!
There is an amazing mushroom stand. I could spend hours there just looking at them, especially when it’s the season, like right now, you’ll find chanterelle, porcini, shiitake, lion’s mane, button mushroom, cremini, portobello... I get inspired!
This the place where I can grab a few things for the week, and things that I know will keep, like potatoes, onion, garlic, always a couple bell peppers to roast and keep handy.
I like also that I can find there thing I wouldn’t find in a traditional grocery store. They have a lot of asian produce.
Going to the Alemany Market has helped me buy produce in season and when I stroll down I always get inspired for a dinner.
To me this market, and Rainbow groceries are the two places I really shop for produce. Why go anywhere else??
It’s a perfect way to start my weekend, try it some time, you’ll like it. Parking is hard especially after 10 am.
Note: I do enjoy going to the Farmers’s Market at the Ferry building, but to me, this is more a tourist attraction than anything else. Yes the products are amazing but I won’t pay $6 for 2 apples. No way! Too bad the place is very beautiful!
