Sunday late lunch
Sunday, November 9, 2008
Sunday was the perfect day for a late lunch at Ti Couz. No it was not as rainy as Brittany can be, but a mix of sun and clouds in San Francisco. This “old house” (ty-kozh) open its door to me after a long time of absence and it’s with pleasure that I sat behind the counter one more time.
I won’t comment on the ambiance of Ti Couz. On a Sunday afternoon, it’s buzzing with friends, parents and babies like any other popular brunch place in San Francisco.
We didn’t have to wait long as we arrived towards the end of the lunch service. Our waitress was a very sweet young lady. I liked her service, she was there enough to pay attention but never came to interrupt our conversation.
I ordered the soup of the day: a cream of cauliflower, then we shared a green salad. I had to make my own savory crêpe: ham, cheese and an egg. My friend had the ham and tomato crêpe.
Ti Couz has a large selection of savory and sweet crêpe, they also have today’s specials. I think you will have no problem finding one that will fit your taste.
The soup was de-li-cious!! The texture was bit more rustic that I am use to, it wasn’t disappointing at all but in harmony with the place and the rest of the food. Flavors were all there, the seasoning perfect. I would have been just happy eating that.
Well, of course not, you should start knowing me by now. Everyone around me had a warm crêpe dans l’assiette and me?
We followed with a nice green salad, I wasn’t too fan of their mix, just plain lettuce would have been fine for me but once in a while I would find an unexpected leaf of spinach, tasted a bit strange .
Then came the beautiful crêpe de Sarrasin. Very good! It did hit the spot!
All that, with a nice glass of wine. It was the perfect meal for a fall Sunday.
Summary: Ti Couz’s consistency in their quality crêpes will always have me coming back. This is perfect for a brunch, a quick bite or just because you need a crêpe fix. I recommend the”old house”. Bill for 2: $45.97 (including 2 glasses of white wine. Tip not included)
Note: In France, unless you live in Brittany, crêpes are usually a tradition for Mardi Gras. Not the Mardi Gras as we know it here with the beads and the New Orleans’ influence.
Mardi Gras in France is kind of our Halloween, for me it was the only day of the year where I could dress up and go to school looking like a pirate, a bee or cinderella. In my house, my mother use to flip the first crêpe with a Louis d’or (old gold coin with the effigy of Louis XV) in her left hand, it suppose to bring luck for the rest of the year. Nostalgia!
