Dinner at home
Monday, December 15, 2008
Tonight the BF was cooking and sometimes there’s nothing better than something really simple: meat, veggie, potato.
I called that the Americana plate, because where ever I have travelled in this country you will always found a dinner to serve you: steak, baked potato and broccoli.
This is one of my favorite dinner, far from the gastronomic dinners and plates, with foams, foie gras and other exotic ingredients, this is were my heart is, in simple food!
You can tell when a Chef is good when simple food is so perfectly done that I would seriously pay $30 for a plate like this in a restaurant!
The steak was pre-seasoned a day before and pan fried in a cast-iron pan. Broccoli are steamed and just salt and peppered, perfectly cooked. I spied on the BF for his baked potato because the skin is so crisp! I saw him rubbing them with oil and a generous amount of salt before putting them in the oven for 45 minutes. When ready, he open them up and the flesh exposed he seasoned it again and cover it with a nice spoonful of sour cream.
This is usually the type of plate that we will eat watching a movie, one of those nights where we don’t want anything complicated.
Just a reminder that the best things in life are often the simplest!
Bon Appétit!
