I would go to Barcelona for one reason: The St Joseph Mercat known as La Boqueria.
This paradise for anyone who likes food and real fresh produce. Growing up in Europe I am very familiar with open markets but this is for me the Mecca of them all. You can find everything you need for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will find every part of the animal, any kind of meat, thirty five different jamón, spices from around the world, vegetables, fish as fresh as can beand the most exotic fruit you’ll ever seen in Europe. La boqueria will make you dream of food and like us you’ll find yourself addicted by this place. While in Barcelona we made our daily trip there every morning.
If you hang there in the morning you might be as lucky as us and meet Chef Carles Abellan of Comerç24. Carles and my boyfriend talked kitchen before he invited us to his establishment, I didn’t want to tell him but his restaurant was on my list of the places to go on that trip.
Comerç24: one star rated in the Michelin. Abellan has been working with Ferran Adriá for the past 10 years before opening this hip place in El Born district.
Find your way, smell around, be absorbed by the colors, the noise, get lost in there and if you are tired just sit at one of the tapas bar they have inside. If you are hungry just start the biggest feast in your life. Jamón, cheeses, bread, fruits...
Summary: This is food paradise. Between la Sagrada Familia and la Casa Mila drop by La boqueria, you won’t regret it!
