One bite at a time!
Catalan food at its Best
Friday, September 12, 2008
It’s in the Bario Gotico that you will find one of the best restaurant in Barcelona. Don’t be scared by the line in front of the door, it’s always like this! Trust me it’s worth the wait. We managed, with William, to go thru this twice in a week! And if you ask for a beer or a glass of wine while you wait, the waiter will accommodate you. Actually we never got billed for the drinks we had prior to seating down.
When you have the chance to have two people move out of the counter you will be seated at one of the best table in Spain. There is no menu there, well there is one, at the door but you won’t be given one.
Tell your waiter what’s your preference, point at other people plate of at the interesting fish in display behind him and he will guide you to the best menu. Though the meat and sausages are to fall off your seat, this is Spain and this is Cataluña, so let yourself go for the local fish. Anything that comes for the sea will be the best seafood experience you will ever have. Trust me!
This is a tapas bar, everything will come in small plate to share but please have a light lunch before you go there because you will be needing the room.
What we ate:
Pan con tomato
Croquettas de jamón
Tortilla (egg foodgasm)
Baby clams (Foodgasm)
Fritto
Baby squid with chick peas
Tuna tartar
Pork sausage with Foie Gras (Foodgasm)
Cockles
Filet and papas
Trio of mousse
Everything we had sent us to food paradise. Pep, who’s always in his kitchen was amazingly welcoming and shared with us many of his cooking secrets. It’s worth going to Barcelona just for this restaurant.
Summary: You must go there!! Take the time, enjoy this moment, watch the chef make the food presented to you and chat with your neighbors because everyone is having a moment. Bill for 2: with wine 88 Euros (wine bottle 15 Euros)
