Taller de Tapas
We found this restaurant open really late when everyone else was starting to close their kitchen. We were strolling in our favorite part of the city on our way back home when we stopped by Taller de Tapas. It had been highly recommended and I wanted to try it. We arrived almost at the end of the service and were seated outside. The street was busy around 10:30 at night and it was funny to enjoy people watching at the same time we had our meal.
Pan con tomate (It’s always served in restaurants. Grilled bread ribbed with garlic and a tomato, drizzled with olive oil)
Pescadito frito
Pimentos de Padrón
Foie gras de pato a la plancha
Croquetes de pernil
Navajas a la plancha
Summary: The food was good but not extraordinary. I am glad I had a meal there. It was a good moment but I wasn’t more impressed. Bill for 2: 87.95 Euro (including tip, 2 mojitos, wine bottle 24 Euro)
Sagardi
Here is a place that we walked by and saw crowds pouring out of, that had to be a good sign! It is the hip version of a traditional tapas bar with a basque twist. This is to me as Gastropub can be. The food is great, I like the Tavern like feel, you can ask for cider (poured out of huge barrels) or of wine by the glass.
Prepare yourself to be standing, the only table you can seat at are outside and believe me it gets crowded fast! I didn’t mind standing, it gave me a better view of the food.
The way to do it: Grab a plate you will see piled around the bar and start picking up stuff, keep the Pinxto (toothpick) on your plate. When you ask for your bill they will count those and the number of glass you had.
Summary: The food was excellent, ask for the chorizo and morcillas! I would recommend it for anyone who wants a good snack, or like us, a fun dinner! Bill for 2: 44.20 Euro (including tips, 7 glass of wine hey we were a bit thirsty that day! and 16 Pintxo) By the way, the waiter forgot to count us 2 glass of the house cider. If you are on a budget that the best place to experience great food for a small price.
Paco Meralgo
One of Barcelona’s institution in matter of Tapas, Paco Meralgo came again highly recommended. This is one of the Tapas bar you want to go to, if you have a bit of a budget and if you want some of the freshest fish in town. Our mistake, we came with a friend and accepted to be seated at a table. Choose the bar! You’ll be missing on the entertainment. Reservations are recommended.
On our menu we had:
Gaspatxo
Pernil Iberico
Anxoves (anchovies)
Croquetes de Marisco
Gambes
Navajes alla plancha
Tuna tartar
Clams
Sipia...
The food was good, really good. Not mind blowing and I think that was my disappointment. I went also to Paco Meralgo after going to Cal Pep and I think I compared the two too much. Cal Pep being the one that wowed me the most.
Summary: Seat at the bar, order seafood, a bit expensive but worth the detour. Bill for 3: 114 Euros (including tip and 17 Euro bottle of wine)
