I wanted to know what was all the fuss about this place. It seemed that I could only find good reviews, so I needed to try it.
I sat at the counter with the BF and ordered a salad while our pie was being made. I found the staff to be very nice and welcoming. The place was quasi-empty that day and it felt like being at a friend’s house.
The small salad was enough to feed a family of four, all the ingredients were very fresh and I did like the homemade basil vinaigrette. This was such a refreshing touch.
We ordered a whole pie, half vegetarian and half special. It was great to be able to see it being made.
It came hot from the oven to the counter and lightly sprinkled with fresh basil. The smell was just amazing.
It was great to bite in this thin and crispy cornmeal crust.
I am usually not a big fan of the American-Style pizza, meaning bread-like crust and about thousands of toppings, I am more about paper thin crust and tomato and basil toppings. But this was really good, the pizza was not too crowded by the toppings and the freshness of the ingredients earned Za Pizza extra points in my book.
Located on Russian hill Za Pizza has definitely earned my respect. The service is good, the pizza fantastic, just a great Pizza joint!
Summary: Great Pizza I just wish they would deliver to my neighborhood. Bill for 2: $41.72 (including a whole pie and 3 beers)
