One Bite at a time!
The Blue pLate

After a long day of errands and chores, yes on a Saturday, I was exhausted. Not an ounce of flesh in me would have stand behind a stove and at the last minute I decide to go out to dinner.
We arrived at 8:45 pm and I am glad I had made a reservation, a guest arriving right after me is told 45 minutes wait. Ouch! We got seated almost immediately, we did arrive a little late because parking in the neighborhood was insane.
Once at the table, our waitress came to greet us right away. I was in the mood for comfort food and The Blue Plate is the place!
I ordered the Dungeness crab brandade and the meatloaf, the BF orders the Duck terrine and the day scallops.
The Brandade, served with some grilled pita bread was good. A nice appetizer. I tried the Duck terrine and didn’t like it. To me it was too sweet, I couldn’t taste the duck but mostly the spices and the sweetness of the dish. The toast served with it were very dried, uneatable dried. And as we complained to our waitress, someone came to our table and apologized. They compensated us for the dish, it was unexpected and I was surprised. It was a very nice gesture from the restaurant. Very appreciated!
I also like that even if the restaurant was busy, we never felt rushed. They took their time to remove our plates once done, leaving us time to enjoy our dinner and conversation. The table was wiped cleaned before they even brought the second course. I really enjoyed our waitress that had a very bubbly personality. She was very professional, always on top of everything. I am always so happy when I find a great waiter/tress, it’s such a huge part of the meal!
The meatloaf was amazing, served with very smooth mash potatoes and green beans with a jus. It was delicious, I had never had a meatloaf so light and flavorful at the same time. When talking about meatloaf one always expect this big brick of ground meat, that can sink ot the bottom of your stomach as soon as you take a bite. At The Blue Plate, the meat loaf was perfect!
I would go back there just for this dish!
The BF had the scallops that was suppose to come with a root vegetable risotto. I think the wording of the menu induce us to believe that it would have some rice with the root vegetables risotto but it didn’t. I did order a side of their macaroni and drunken spanish goat cheese and once again if you are looking for comfort food with a twist, The Blue Plate has it!
I was looking around me and everyone seemed to be enjoying the same things, a lot of meatloaf, and macaroni on the tables.
I loved the service and found the food good. I did find the menu a bit uneven in prices, the meatloaf was $16, the scallop dish $26, the ribeye $29. That’s a bit much for me. For a restaurant to charge more than $25 for an entrée, they must bring a bit more than comfort food to the table. I have to say the entrées are very generous portions and you can easily feed 2 people on one plate.
Summary: I really enjoyed my dinner, the food was great but the next time, I will remember to just come for the meatloaf and the macaroni, not that the rest of the food is bad, but just a bit over priced for me. The service was excellent and I recommend The Blue Plate if you have a comfort food craving. Bill for 2: $123 (not including tip, including $28 bottle of wine)
Note: Sorry for the lack of pictures, I was so tired I forgot my camera.
