It was on a early afternoon that the BF and I decided to push the doors of Limón’s new location on Valencia St. The place is much bigger than the old location and the big windows were perfect to sit by while having a quiet lunch.
I looked at the menu and already some dishes are already catching my attention. I can’t think about Peru without thinking of Ceviche, I have to have some.
We started with Ceviche de Pescado y Camarones. The plate looked fantastic and the ingredients so fresh. It was really good, not too acidic as it can be sometimes, but just a perfect balance.
Then I ordered the Anticuchos de Rez, beef heart skewered and grilled. It’s coated in a thick sauce bringing the perfect spiciness to the dish. Ok, it’s not every day that you’ll find Heart on the menu of a restaurant and trust me it’s a really hard meat to cook. It’s almost like squid if you over cook it a second it will turn into this rubbery thing that will be so hard to chew that you will never bother to eat heart again. Anyway, it was a first for the BF and I took the first bite. It was so tender and perfectly cooked. The BF tried it seeing my eyes rolling in the back of my head and ate pretty much the rest! It might sounds weird but if there is a place were I would recommend for you to try it, it’s really at Limón!
Can I have about 2 pounds of those?
Then we ordered the Rotisserie chicken, served with two sides. I picked the vegetables and rice.
The chicken, though obviously not cooked to order it was still very moist and tasty. I loved the marinade and the spices used on it. I liked the vegetable too, though they had a bit of a chinese flair, not really what I was expecting, but still very tasty.
I am very impressed by the Castillo family who have brought Limón to life. Martin Castillo, Executive chef deserves the attention he has been attracting since he open Limón in 2001.
I was very impressed with the food. The price was very affordable and we came home with a bunch of leftovers.
Summary: Limón is really worth the detour. The chicken is great and for $15 for a whole chicken you can take the whole family out! Bill for 2: $45.22 (including beer and wine) The ceivche, the Anticuchos, the chicken, everythign was very good. I will be back very soon!
